Flyfishing Academy - 2008


The Santa Barbara Flyfishers held its fourth Flyfishing Academy. Once again, twelve students were selected from applications submitted. Eligible ages were 10 to 15 years old. Attendees were introduced to the sport of flyfishing and learned about terminology, tackle, entomology, fly tying, reading water, casting and presentation techniques. Club members served as instructors. The program was a two day (one weekend) curriculum, and took place on:

April 12th Saturday - 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM
April 13th Sunday - 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
(Lunch was provided both days)

At Hendry's Beach in the South Coast Watershed Resource Center

Who:
10-15 year olds submitted applications; twelve participants were selected.

Curriculum included:
  • Fly Tying
  • Fishing Terminology
  • Fighting Fish to Keep or Release
  • Fish Biology, Ecology & Entomology (Bugs!)
  • Fly Casting
  • Reading Water
  • Knot Tying
  • Safety & Etiquette

Presented to each graduating participant:
  • Free family membership in Santa Barbara Flyfishers for 1 year
  • Redington Rod and Reel combo!!! *
  • Graduation Certificate
  • Fishing field trip on - Saturday, April 26th
  • and ....... ?
All applicants will receive a 1 year junior membership in the Santa Barbara Flyfishers Club.
