Flyfishing Academy - 2010

The Santa Barbara Flyfishers will hold it's sixth Flyfishing Academy. Once again, twelve students will be selected from applications submitted. Eligible ages are 10 to 15 years old. Attendees are introduced to the sport of flyfishing and learn about terminology, tackle, entomology, fly tying, reading water, casting and presentation techniques. Club members serve as instructors. The program is a two day (one weekend) curriculum, and will take place on:

April 10th Saturday - 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
April 11th Sunday - 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
(Lunch for will be provided both days)

Where:
At Arroyo Burro (Hendry's) Beach in the South Coast Watershed Resource Center building

Who:
10-15 year olds may submit applications; twelve participants will be selected.

Curriculum includes:
  • Fly Tying
  • Fishing Terminology
  • Fighting Fish to Keep or Release
  • Fish Biology, Ecology & Entomology (Bugs!)
  • Fly Casting
  • Reading Water
  • Knot Tying
  • Safety & Etiquette
Presented to each graduating participant:
  • Free family membership in Santa Barbara Flyfishers for 1 year
  • Redington Rod and Reel combo!!! *
  • Graduation Certificate
  • Club Logo Fly Box
  • Fishing field trip on - TBA
  • and ....... ?
All applicants will receive a 1 year family membership in the Santa Barbara Flyfishers Club.

Former Academy graduates may not apply; former applicants that were not selected are encourged to apply again. We will have an “On the water” Outing for the graduates. It will be within a few weeks after the Academy. It will most likely be at the Santa Ynez River. The exact date and location will be announced as soon as determined. If you are one of the 12 accepted for the Academy:
