The Otter controversey, again.
Mar 28th, 2010, 3:33pm

Everyone knows the ab and urchin industry hates the Sea Otter. Are Otters coming to Santa Barbara? Will they wreak havoc on the fishery?

Here's some recent reading on the subject:

What's your opinion?

Check out the last sentence to find out why Arnold Schwarzenegger should be wary of a vicious attack by Otters.  Grin

Middle of the road Milton you are weak!  Don't drink the koolade at UCSB they even got the Love or took him out of context. This has been going on since the early seventies and the otter has yet to establish itself  in great numbers South of Point Conception. They come and they go and eat themselves out of house and home. They are far from any sort of hindge pin species...you see them in numbers it means they are here to eat until it's gone and then move on before some preditor discovers that they hang out in any one spot.I have seen this in the kelp beds off Hope Ranch go on for 4 decades.  There is no balance as far the otters go and that is a myth.  The truth is that just like any other protected spieces they are a cash cow.  Ole Goldblatt is selling his writing and best stick to fiction in my opinion. Throw more wood on the fire there Chris! The truth lies with the observations of Doug Klingensmith who responded so well in the Independent.  We got more to do to make things right with the marine environment than have the otter icon to hug. The way things are going they will be around long after we have done our deed to the planet. Less humans more otters with the Parkards  socially engineering it that way .  In the end we are less human.    Otters are not going to save anything.  Humans can.  Can you figure it out?....be more human..... use your brain.  Hug Doug and not the otters!
