Cancel the Owens, Go to the Kern
Mar 7th, 2010, 8:40pm

The Owens River trip was canceled due to high water and bad weather. Mike Clevenger and I were prepared to join the group with Rick at the Owens River. Mike said we should DO SOMETHING. He suggested the Kern and off we went.

We got into Kernville around 10:30 am Friday morning. Mike had arranged a walking, guided trip with Guy from the Fly Shop in town. We fished all afternoon with Guy and could not find any trout willing to take a fly.

Saturday morning we got up at O'dark early and hit the river. On my first cast I caught a HOG. We were both excited and got ready for a hot morning. That was it. Fish catching was over. The river was clear, flowing at a manageable rate, and the fish are moving up out of the lake. Guy said the catching was slow but the fish were big. From our experience he was right on both counts.
