surf report 10/01/08
Oct 2nd, 2008, 12:48pm

Hit the surf yesterday in Carpinteria and found a lot of cooperative perch. They made up for their size with there willingness to attack a fly.

I hit the beach a as the tide started receding. There were a lot of weeds and the water was a bit turbid so you needed to find clear spots to cast. As the tide went out there were less weeds and the fishing got better. At times I would catch 6 or seven in a row. Most were hand sized.

Glad to see someone is getting out. Maybe I will bring a six weight and an 8 weight with me when I finally get out there (don't own a good 7) those perch could be fun on the 6.

Do bring the six weight. It's a good choice for the perch. I was using a 7 wt that day and was a bit over gunned. Even so, those hand sized perch put a bend in the rod.
