trying to figure out a couple decent rod set ups
Jul 13th, 2008, 11:10pm

So Im thinking about buying a 7 weight saltwater rod and I have a 5 weight freshwater rod for trout.  I kinda want to try bass fishing on the Lake Casita, would a 7 weight salt water rod work or would that be too much?  also If I wanted to hit up the SY would my 5wt work for the carp in there?

I think you are on the right track regarding a seven wt rod.  It should handle most of the fish from our shores and it would be very helpful for the carp.  Most people don't land them because they are under gunned.  It will still be a challenge on a seven wt, if you do hook one.  Good luck.
