A good day at the Sand Spit
Feb 16th, 2008, 11:07pm

People of the FISH,

I had a great day with Lew and Johnny.  We hit the Sand Spit around noon.  Low tide was at 1:30.  We all caught fish.  It was the best day I have had this winter.  We each landed several fat barred perch, some small ones, and a hand full of shiners.

Johnny told me he wanted to learn to fly fish the surf.  He purchased a sink tip line and tied up some weighted flys.  Casting a weighted line takes some getting used to and he picked up the basic technique quickly.  Johnny caught the first fish of the day and he was holding his own with Lew and I through out the day.  Johnny and I left around 3:15 and Lew fished on.  (I am waiting to hear about the details of the five pound Halibut he caught).

We hope to get out again tomorrow.  It is nice to go fishing and catch fish!!!   I have had quite a few "no fish" days this winter.

Keep 'em tight,

Joseph
