Raindance
Feb 14th, 2007, 8:56am

Any predictions on how the lack of rainfall this winter will affect the Santa Ynez come spring? Last year was the first real season that I have targeted the SY as my primary local water. I would assume that flows in the river are dependant upon the level of the resesvoir. I ran up the river last week and while the water temp is quite cool, the level remains fairly low. (Raindance continues daily)........

P.S. Been thinking about make a trip (first time) to Piru. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Respects..........Mark

The Santa Ynez River, above the dam, will continue to diminish, if we do not get much rain, as we move toward Summer.  You would have to locate and fish the deeper pools which can warm up in summer unfortunatly--and there are swimmers to contend with then as well.  The water below the dam I do not know about but figure it would be a minimum flow.  So fish the upper area early as you can.  You can also try perch and bass in the lake.  And there is a trout derby coming up in April at cachuma.  See the Montecito Journal last issue.

Nice dancin' Fishstick !

The DFG is stocking the Santa Ynez this week !!!   Smiley

My only problem is I probably won't have time to fish because I've got to get ready for the two shows coming in the next week, The Fly Fishing Show in Pasedena this weekend and the Fred Hall Show in Long Beach next week and weekend.

If any of you attend the shows stop by and say hello. I will be at the Snowbee booth and also visiting at the Kern River Fly Fishing booth and the Fisherman's Spot booth.
