Does anyone know  of any trails in the santa ynez river? Are their any that parallel the stream going upstream?

There is a trail at Red Rocks but at this time of year you'll have to hike a ways to get away from the crowds.

On the same topic, is there any river access below paradise and above cachuma. I'd sure like to fish that streatch of water near live oaks and the golf course.

That would be nice but as far as I know it's all private land.

Well we just have to find out who owns it, and maybe, MAYBE, they are a fly fisherman!

They are and they have a very exclusive clients. Don't go there!  I have tried for a lifetime.  They don't want to share.  Given what the public does up river I can't blame them.    LEW

There is an old road bed that follows the Santa Ynez from Red Rock all the way to the Ventura County border and beyond to Matilija Dam.  I think it is called the Murrietta Trail.  It goes by Gibralter and Jameson reservoirs as it gradually climbs up towards Divide Peak.  It is a gorgeous trail in the spring when the wildflowers are blooming.  Great flora and fauna.  There are several feeder creeks along the way.  I couldn't tell you how the fishing would be as I never stopped to try.  You need some kind of special permit to fish the reservoirs,  which are not always available.
