Title: Fishing with Mark at the Kern
Post by Forum Admin on Mar 9th, 2011, 10:54am

Mark stopped by the Kern on his way home from the East side and we got a chance to get out and sample some of the local cuisine, Kernville Brewery beer and, most importantly, chase some fish. The water is getting a little warmer every day as warm sunny days arrive. I measured 50 degrees yesterday afternoon near the bridge. The fish are keying on stoneflies nymphs and adults are starting to show.

Here's Mark Johnson from our Club:

Here's Dan, a Kernville local, proving the suckers are also getting active:

Here's me:

Here's one I caught that looks a lot like a lake run fish. It's only a 12 incher but I'm sure there's some bigger ones moving up with him.

Here's a pic of one of the adult stones we have been seeing:

a closeup of a stonefly:

You'll probably start seeing a lot of empty stonefly cases on the rocks alongside the river.

A good time was had by all, it's a great time to come up and fish!  :)
