Title: Calico bass and others
Post by 9ft4wt on May 12th, 2009, 6:10pm

Wow, the time has flown. In a little more than 2 months we will be out there for our vacation. We are going to have access to  2-3 kayaks. I have seen postings on other sights from further south of lots of calico bass and other bass species. Looks like they come from deeper water than the perch and corbina you get from the surf zone.

Can anybody tell me what we might expect a couple hundred yards -- more or less off shore in Santa Barbara.  Any kelp beds? Channels? What species might we encounter?

thanks for any help.

The Santa Barbara area has a lot of kelp beds close to shore. Fishing for calico and sand is very good and even white sea bass can be found. The area has a lot of very easy places to launch from as well.
