Title: Crowley and the Quagga
Post by Forum Admin on Apr 9th, 2008, 1:28pm

It looks like Crowley Lake is going to take some steps to defend against the Quagga Mussel.

Boat launching will only be permitted through the main gate at the South Landing and boats will have to be inspected.

It should be noted there is no mention of float tubes, at least for now. Thank goodness! You should however be conscious that if you use your tube at another location it should be thoroughly dried!

I would not be suprised to see some sort of inspections going on at Whitmore and Lieghton Springs as well. Portable float craft and waders are just if not more of a vector than a trailered boat. Right now it seems they are after some one who has pulled a boat out of a lake hooked up to the Colorado River that could carry a colonizing threat.   It does not take to much imagination that this only the start of measures once they start taking them.    LEW

I can't see how they could possibly set up inspections anywhere but the main gate. There are just too many places. That's why they are prohibiting launching from anywhere but the main entrance. Float tubes would be much harder to regulate. That's probably why they haven't tried yet. What a zoo that place will be on the opener!  ::)
